Twinkle Toes was inspired by several things. First, this painting is based on a photograph I saw of the professional Australian longboard surfer, Belinda Baggs. Her style and grace as a longboarder brings her game into the world of art, as she composes her waves like that of a choreographer and performs a dance as if she were a ballerina. The title of this piece, Twinkle Toes, is directly related to the roots of where my passion for dance and the world of water sports come from. Twinkle Toes is one of the many nicknames of my grandmother, Shirley Goodman, who was a professional tap dancer, and continues to teach dance well into her 90's! Not only has she passed on many dance moves to me over the years, I have her DNA to thank, her youthful energy and vibrant personality, for my creative passions and quest for a joyfilled life. Twinkle Toes was also the name that my grandfather gave to his sail boat, that he and my grandmother lived on in the summer during my childhood. Having spent incredible days and nights sailing and sleeping on Twinkle Toes, I consider it my introduction to living life in and on the water.
